meet the founder:
Tedman Popplewell

As a formally recognized Leave No trace Instructor and Indiana Master Naturalist with formal wilderness medicine training from the National Outdoor Leadership School, Ted is an outdoor educator with a passion for planting seeds of knowledge that continue to grow into applicable experiences.

A Hoosier native, Ted has spent his life exploring the woodlands, wetlands and dunes of his home state. The Earth provided, and still provides, a sanctuary from the mental and emotional stresses which so often accompany modern life.

For Ted, nature will always be a refuge and an opportunity for healing, learning and discovery. Skills like wilderness safety and preparedness, fire making, water purification, Emergency shelter construction, wildlife education, and the ethics of interacting in natural spaces all contribute to building a sense of inner strength and self reliance.

It is the dream at American Wilderness Experiences to open the door for every person to genuinely and competently experience the AWEsome beauty of the natural world.
